<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I have a huge mini painting project I am about to start, and decided to give it a try in a way that is just a small step, and I thought I would share.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Rather than going all in and getting magnets embedded in dowel or custom magnetised holders, I am doing the following.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMBv-1yUHO8w0VrVFlsZ-2thiHl3jzfSW8JRmDEzxlW_BvL442nkPsgAxbYxpTa4u7DbZNunRRaEG5kDKbg7jyjsJfUc_Bqh00_J22eDS_wORDOyvkyLa4drWtmFapeBvMYD1vDYkPVAs/s1600/Magnets+06.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1110" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMBv-1yUHO8w0VrVFlsZ-2thiHl3jzfSW8JRmDEzxlW_BvL442nkPsgAxbYxpTa4u7DbZNunRRaEG5kDKbg7jyjsJfUc_Bqh00_J22eDS_wORDOyvkyLa4drWtmFapeBvMYD1vDYkPVAs/s640/Magnets+06.jpg" width="441" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">First I have some 12mmx1mm strong magnets. They were about 10c each on eBay.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFUEQDUk6N0zkU8T6xJumWtyvMq-_aMlLVy2AqO9MmT_pqo7bf_QSSwAXXbHF3D2yrZnMMr-uWj-9CjZOVwUnTKY6POhcDV0YGdVecQEZbA0-6UbqX9VnHRDL7-a1p54MOA0PpALN01W8/s1600/Magnets+01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><img border="0" data-original-height="898" data-original-width="996" height="288" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFUEQDUk6N0zkU8T6xJumWtyvMq-_aMlLVy2AqO9MmT_pqo7bf_QSSwAXXbHF3D2yrZnMMr-uWj-9CjZOVwUnTKY6POhcDV0YGdVecQEZbA0-6UbqX9VnHRDL7-a1p54MOA0PpALN01W8/s320/Magnets+01.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I paint using disposable shot glasses as my holders, and I really like them, so I wanted to keep that.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Magnets are of course polarised, so I have a single old figure which I have used as a template and then put it on a shot glass and dropped another magnet it. Then I put a second shot glass into the first which means the magnet can't flip, so this is a solid magnetic figure base I can disassemble that cost me about 15c.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgesxoUD6jUbWe696gQ31yqcuozpqj3WqumxrKNnELaGiGfsR2RvMHDxhNxrjB35-BdNZKMYLKKXVVV9qEdhzCmlhkHuQOMkTq_njbdq5gTHuCHWLsR0ZCD_0Oroeb8W1QPopCPD2hEhHk/s1600/Magnets+02.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1199" data-original-width="1137" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgesxoUD6jUbWe696gQ31yqcuozpqj3WqumxrKNnELaGiGfsR2RvMHDxhNxrjB35-BdNZKMYLKKXVVV9qEdhzCmlhkHuQOMkTq_njbdq5gTHuCHWLsR0ZCD_0Oroeb8W1QPopCPD2hEhHk/s320/Magnets+02.jpg" width="303" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Now for putting the magnets on the figures. When I was using putty to attach figures to the shot glasses I would need to use a lot of it, and it wouldn't hold very well. As you can see in the photos below, I am using a very small amount of putty to attach the magnets.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">All in all, I am getting enough putty to attach 10-15 magnets from the putty I used to use on a single figure from my last project, because I am reusing the putty.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMkfvok4kx3UIfexw-FHakivKnsTUi0xVOMx0lNzZDg9nlMc2K2zoX_ILZWObAEJFtx12y4siT2SlN7jecAjnwEbN3U0KGStlc6IA-edCj1hYvEwpq45svJcnrc77wb3d2rY93XlFMu3g/s1600/Magnets+04.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1147" data-original-width="927" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMkfvok4kx3UIfexw-FHakivKnsTUi0xVOMx0lNzZDg9nlMc2K2zoX_ILZWObAEJFtx12y4siT2SlN7jecAjnwEbN3U0KGStlc6IA-edCj1hYvEwpq45svJcnrc77wb3d2rY93XlFMu3g/s320/Magnets+04.jpg" width="258" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1ZJYwP9cPEZpQ2yaPsOR1Vitmj_nBqltEG5YeacMZkxhtF7GmdVLlKS6B3NfiJbdRudRvPyeOsDYBLt37mSNgyPnZ8qVo7yn-BL84b1guFmH8VtR2G9uHxPqqg71sYEuV-pO7JEOSVkM/s1600/Magnets+05.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1039" data-original-width="857" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1ZJYwP9cPEZpQ2yaPsOR1Vitmj_nBqltEG5YeacMZkxhtF7GmdVLlKS6B3NfiJbdRudRvPyeOsDYBLt37mSNgyPnZ8qVo7yn-BL84b1guFmH8VtR2G9uHxPqqg71sYEuV-pO7JEOSVkM/s320/Magnets+05.jpg" width="263" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjADFGVE6pFq-ArWsINuRjGVMYwyLy_30lFHOZyxkSKEddOOdwhOGIcZ0TNiyw3HsalaJ37VubrjqCR0HHjOPtn8gJVRqWrfu42YDtUxlCGLoz0U7rsbY8wtAB9ihns-4fXtJJYvQFhLwU/s1600/Magnets+03.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1151" data-original-width="1041" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjADFGVE6pFq-ArWsINuRjGVMYwyLy_30lFHOZyxkSKEddOOdwhOGIcZ0TNiyw3HsalaJ37VubrjqCR0HHjOPtn8gJVRqWrfu42YDtUxlCGLoz0U7rsbY8wtAB9ihns-4fXtJJYvQFhLwU/s320/Magnets+03.jpg" width="289" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">One this is done, I can just attach or remove the figure from the holder at a whim. I can also attach the figures to a cheap baking tray for transport, out to my airbrush station outside, or remove them for putting into a metal based storage container if I am not going to be getting to them for a while (not pictured as I haven't constructed this yet).</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">So then we have the picture I opened this with.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMBv-1yUHO8w0VrVFlsZ-2thiHl3jzfSW8JRmDEzxlW_BvL442nkPsgAxbYxpTa4u7DbZNunRRaEG5kDKbg7jyjsJfUc_Bqh00_J22eDS_wORDOyvkyLa4drWtmFapeBvMYD1vDYkPVAs/s1600/Magnets+06.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Of course at this stage as long as I don't remove the figure I could remove the bottom shot glass as the magnet on the figure is holding the magnet into the single shot glass.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">It used to be that all I could have on my table and in my "In Progress" rack was about 20 figures because the size of the shot glasses was the limiting factor. Now I can store the 60 I am working on easily because I am storing them off the bases and only putting them onto the bases when I need to work.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">There will be some logistics to sort out such as how I will do my priming and everything, but I think this will be a good step forward.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I do plan on making it more professional, maybe. But I thought I would share this shortcut that allowed me to move towards magnetisation without massive overhead or outlay.</span></span>Bremic_aushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11485078508532251293noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7670759754652119460.post-8648021734678027322019-08-03T09:45:00.000+10:002019-08-03T09:45:04.365+10:00Flash Point: Fire Rescue. Because everyone loves fire-persons.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Flash Point: Fire Rescue is probably my favourite introductory co-op game. It's also the one that I think is the most thematic game because everyone gets what is going on. You can play it with 6 year olds, or 80 year olds. And I have. If there was any game I wanted to give a good treatment to it was this one.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">It has taken me over half a year to finish this project, though the last half has only taken me three weeks. It's amazing what you can do when you just sit down and focus. Even painting only 30 minutes every other day, I finished the last seven pretty quickly.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4N8L-MgN2hVAn-314Y1wiBmtIWMSfPyUz3PCd4NL7zq3sT3QfOO_kVafNHWJ4wivbnusGkj8LQyd5f0XQkMYpjFCtGz0CDs-Hop9gZCeFJvaSpJRn0qjkncxp50YbdlHGOnN9yAlbGy0/s1600/Flash+Point+01a.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><img border="0" data-original-height="766" data-original-width="1600" height="304" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4N8L-MgN2hVAn-314Y1wiBmtIWMSfPyUz3PCd4NL7zq3sT3QfOO_kVafNHWJ4wivbnusGkj8LQyd5f0XQkMYpjFCtGz0CDs-Hop9gZCeFJvaSpJRn0qjkncxp50YbdlHGOnN9yAlbGy0/s640/Flash+Point+01a.JPG" width="640" /></span></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Each of the roles in Flash Point brings their own feel to the board, and I wanted to try to reflect that in their paint jobs. The trick is the figures don't match the art on the cards, not remotely. To the point there was some argument as to what figure represented which card. I have come up with my own colour schemes to try to make it work for me. Some of them are too simple, others too complex. But I think they will look great on the table.</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Each figure has a tank colour that tries to represent their basic role. FIghting fire, support, leadership. I changed it a few times in order to stay closer to the art, or for artistic purposes. It's my game, and I can do what I want. None of these figures are going to have to actually meet a uniform code.</span></div>

<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">One final touch I had to add, though I had a lot of trouble taking a photo of it. For some of the figures where the uniform matched. The artwork for many of them shows them wearing Hi-Vis with reflector strips. So I had to paint them on. It's not really visible under normal light, and I can't imagine ever playing under UV light, but if my heroes ever find themselves in a situation where they need that extra visibility in low light conditions, they are ready.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I didn't spent too long on each figure. Overall about 2-3 hours on each, with most of the effort on the large ones; I just didn't paint much while I was doing them.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Overall, I am pretty happy with them, and think they look a lot better than the sundrop effect that I could have paid $100 for.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">First off, all the figures together. On the box they showed the Queen with a blue colour, but I wanted to do something interesting so I did an effect where they started off green and turned more blue as they aged, keeping the plating green. I think it worked well overall and makes the figures more interesting.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I decided to make the bases a metallic dark blue because that was what the board was, and the damaged protruding metal because it looked a little like construction metal, it would contrast the figures, and mostly because I like orange and don't use it as often as I would like.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Now they are fully gown adults, ready to do serious damage to the ship's crew.</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">In the background is one of the larger aliens. Didn't get many good photos of these, but they were the least interesting figures. Scary on the table though.</span></div>

<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">This was supposed to be a more artistic shot with some blurring effects done deliberately. It's okay.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">As always, I hope you like the photos and the painting.<br /><br />Mostly these are now going to live in the game box and be unseen for the next year or so. <span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I had to rebase it after it was painted because the base was too small and it kept falling over, so the base was added after the paint was completed. This is the first time I have done this. The base was done in several steps as it's quite a large mini.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">First I used two metal pins screwed and glued into the figure, then glued those into holes screwed into the new base. Then I used Green Stuff to form a more solid bond between the mini base and the new base. Then I used a basing texture to match the existing base to the new base, then I repainted the basing texture to match and gave it a new wash. I think it came out quite well.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">The main figure took about 2-3 hours, the rebase took about 2 hours.</span><br />

The Rebels will face many challenges on the planet Hoth, time to see some of them.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">This post has been a long time coming for a couple of reasons. Firstly it includes the figures I actually hated painting, and the one that I have been most nervous about for over a year, the SC2-M Repulsor Tank. I did the preparation to paint it, which took a few hours, late last year and then it sat waiting to be painted for ages, mostly because I had hated painting the Snowtroopers so much. Then I started and got it done in a day.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Anyway, time to see the enemies of Hoth.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">First lets look at these evil Snowtroopers.</span><br />

They have been a huge source of anxiety and stress for me, but it's good to finally have them done, and the Return to Hoth expansion to Imperial Assault now fully painted. Now just a couple of addon figures to finish and the campaign is fully painted.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Here is the first in a series of entries of stuff I painted over the last six to nine months that I haven't posted about.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I think I finished these last November, but it might have been December.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">The HK Assassin Droids from Imperial Assault, the Return to Hoth expansion.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">The grey ones are the regular units, the coloured ones are the Elites.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">As with all my Imperial Assault minis, I am following the Sorastro guides as they are helping me learn new techniques that I am using when painting other stuff like Reign of Cthulhu, or Drakon.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I hope you like them.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">This was really fast to paint, and a lot of fun.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">It was done with a wet blend, and then just washes. Almost no highlighting on the dragon.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">The gold took as long as the dragon did, probably longer.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">As always, you can click on the images to see them in more detail.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">I always appreciate feedback, maybe one day.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">This time, it's the Drakon heroes.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><b>As always you can click on the image to see them in higher detail.</b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">These figures have been some of the hardest I have painted, because they are unique to the game, and because the artist went overboard with the artwork making them very hard to match, but I decided I was going to try anyway.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">I am going to post the details here, and let you all decide for yourselves how you think I went.</span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">I spent way too long painting these, for a light tile placement game that almost never hits the table. But I enjoyed painting them.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">All that's left to paint from this game is Drakon herself, the dragon that the heroes are stealing from. For Drakon I am going to try a wet blend which should make it fast, though it's a technique I am not experienced with.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Anyway, I hope you like the figures; please feel free to let me know what you think.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Thanks.</span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Kayn and the Heavy Stormtroopers will get used a lot in the Twin Shadows mini campaign, then only be used in Open Groups after that. The new squad of Stormtroopers will be usable in a lot of missions if we want to use them instead of one of the other squads, same stats, different sculpt.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">The problem with the Rebel Troopers is they are used in a single mission, and that's only a side mission that randomly might be in the campaign, and then only maybe will come out. Sad that the chances of them being used is really really low.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Next up I will be working on the Bantha and the Tusken Raiders, the raiders will be used in a few missions, but the Bantha is like the Rebel Troopers, used in only a single mission, that is unlikely to ever be seen; and it's going to take me 20+ hours to paint as I am not a fast painter.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Sad that so much work will likely never be seen on the table.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">But I did spend 3 hours giving a Bantha a manicure this morning, so there's that. I will be able to start painting next week when I get home.</span>Bremic_aushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11485078508532251293noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7670759754652119460.post-89989958689561176852017-05-19T15:44:00.001+10:002017-05-19T15:44:08.435+10:00Pandemic: Reign of Cthulhu - The Final Three Investigators<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">So, in a rush to try to get back to painting Imperial Assault, I finished the final three Investigators for Pandemic: Reign of Cthulhu</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">The Occultist: Probably the simplest figure I have ever painted.<br />The Reporter: Some fun stuff on this one.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">The Detective: Didn't come out how I planned, but I still think he looks good.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">That's all 7 Investigators complete.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">All that's left is the 26 Cultists. The Cultists are tiny minis, only about 1cm tall, with very little detail. I will probably paint them at some point when I am in the mood for a fast batch job.</span>Bremic_aushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11485078508532251293noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7670759754652119460.post-29249265928203674362017-05-11T15:12:00.000+10:002017-05-11T15:12:42.011+10:00Pandemic: Reign of Cthulhu - Shoggoths from the basement<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">So the latest Sorastro guides have introduced me to wet blending, a painting technique that teaches a wonderful way to quickly get a lot of colour variation. Sorastro did this on the Rancor and Jabba, however I have been painting Pandemic: Reign of Cthulhu, so I thought I would start on the Shoggoths.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I wanted to try three different colour variations. A green slime beast that felt like a cross between a squid and seaweed. A purple leather beast that was like a nightmare alien from a horror movie. And a flesh toned creature that was like it was make from human skin, but badly and oozing blood from every pore.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Here is what they look like painted.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5_gEa32Go1WDVxM19AOhV-8Hxm4xefPYbxNJFnffGW-pcEIh4C4kj0ej7ZiGylNAIbpjRb5qmqdHBk2TfGr0N1cIyNfyLEP90xJ6MGDfuuXlY27LQpjarTwwXKUnqf6Yo1MNk8nGU2XI/s1600/Shoggoths+01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="129" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5_gEa32Go1WDVxM19AOhV-8Hxm4xefPYbxNJFnffGW-pcEIh4C4kj0ej7ZiGylNAIbpjRb5qmqdHBk2TfGr0N1cIyNfyLEP90xJ6MGDfuuXlY27LQpjarTwwXKUnqf6Yo1MNk8nGU2XI/s320/Shoggoths+01.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyzQE2cJYa08AyAUqb9VjrevUqh__m3Df08ATIHOXWXl1HqELc_Yy6EQF7PP_Mt0hJavi9FhUNFrz-fdi-bbF_uwOB8qztgdDCyhigwUjCtOJddAZ3xNmT5H6rCDl8GWDSmCUCY9fRjr8/s1600/Shoggoths+02.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="121" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyzQE2cJYa08AyAUqb9VjrevUqh__m3Df08ATIHOXWXl1HqELc_Yy6EQF7PP_Mt0hJavi9FhUNFrz-fdi-bbF_uwOB8qztgdDCyhigwUjCtOJddAZ3xNmT5H6rCDl8GWDSmCUCY9fRjr8/s320/Shoggoths+02.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I think they came out pretty well. Again this was a quick photo with poor lighting that doesn't show them really well, but you get the idea.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">They definitely look more horrible than the pale aqua of the base game.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">And they were really quick to paint. I like this technique a lot.</span>Bremic_aushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11485078508532251293noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7670759754652119460.post-11683866411431190062017-04-12T11:41:00.001+10:002017-04-12T13:46:46.442+10:00Review: Istanbul, Coffee and the Postal Service<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I have been meaning to use this blog to also post some board game reviews, and it made sense to start with something positive. So here goes.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><i>Note: I will take and post photos to this at some point. I didn't want to use photos without the owners permission, but some great photos can be found on the <a href="https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/148949/istanbul" target="_blank">Istanbul BGG page</a>.</i></span><br />
<h2>
<span style="color: #990000; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: x-large;">Istanbul</span></h2>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Designed by Rüdiger Dorn</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">It would not be an exaggeration to say that this is one of the favourite games of my regular gaming groups. It is never hard to get Istanbul to the table, either with the base game alone, or with either of the expansions mixed in.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Istanbul is a hard game to classify. It is played on a modular board, and I have heard it called a <i>worker placement</i> game, and also a <i>pick up and deliver</i> game. To me neither of these quite cover the truth behind the simple and yet elegant mechanics that make Istanbul one of the best games in my collection.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">In Istanbul you are a merchant who is dragging your wheelbarrow around locations taking the actions of those locations in order to accumulate enough rubies to win. In the base game the first person to 5 rubies triggers the end game, but with either of the expansions this is changed to 6 rubies. This seems arbitrary in explanation, but during play it doesn't feel that way because the options you can take to collect these is both limited, and very varied. While there are only a few locations where rubies can be obtained, the ways you can gather the resources required are vast and every player will have a different strategy.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">While you are moving your merchant, you also have assistants that you must use in order to activate the locations you are visiting, either by leaving an assistant behind or by picking up an assistant that you left their earlier. If you do not have an assistant then you can visit a location, but your turn ends immediately without you taking any action. This means planning your moves is critical to success. One of the central locations will always be the Fountain, where you can arrange to meet all your assistant and start afresh, however all you do on this turn is collect your assistants again, so it gives your opponents a chance to take more productive actions. However your supply of assistants is very limited so everyone will be visiting the fountain occasionally.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The core of Istanbul is a modular board made up of location tiles. These tiles are often laid out in a particular order, but the game gets amazing when these tiles are randomised with a few simple restrictions. When this happens any strategy you have used in previous games may not work, because locations that you were able to use in synergy may not be close enough together to use that way any more. This means you will constantly be looking for new ways to solve the puzzle that is trading and dealing in the streets of Istanbul. Of course if you visit a location and there is another merchant there ahead of you, you will need to pay that person in order to be able to take that action, after all, they got there first and you are interrupting them. This also allows for some really mean blocking actions if you are so inclined.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">During the game you will have the option to visit the Wainwright to get your wheelbarrow upgraded, go to Mosques to study to learn how to do new things, go to the tea house to gamble, or to the Black Market to do some dark trading for the hard to obtain jewellery. You will even encounter the Governor of Istanbul or a notorious Smuggler.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Bonus Cards that give you special actions you can take during your turn, or single shot rule breaker actions also mix things up every game. You never know what bonus cards you are going to get, and a well timed bonus card may give you an option that you have never seen before.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">But what makes Istanbul special is it's speed. Generally a players turn will only take 10-15 seconds, and you will often find that by the time you have finished thinking about what you want to do next, it's your turn again, even in a 4 or 5 player game. This is because the results of each location are generally simple, even though they are meaningful to the player.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I have taught this game a lot, and have found a explanation of all of the details before starting is the best way to go for this game. It's slower, but will mean the game is a lot faster. If someone is asking about all their options every turn, then the game will take a lot longer than the detailed explanation followed by the game when everyone knows what the locations do.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The biggest complaint about Istanbul is about how fiddly it is. Because turns happen so fast, and you are often moving stacks of pieces and can be moving around coins, and cubes, and tokens all quite quickly, things can be knocked over or dropped. Add to this the cards moving around and the dice being rolled and ... it can be very fiddly. Especially for older players it can be quite awkward to move things around cleanly. However you just slow play down a little and it's all good. It does add about 5 minutes to a game, but it's still a short enough game that it doesn't matter too much.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Istanbul normally takes 45-60 minutes to play, a little shorter for a 2 player game. What is strange is 3-5 player games don't seem to vary that much in play time, with each extra player adding only about 5 minutes to the play time. I think this is because most people are using other player's turns to think about their actions, and things move so fast.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The other complaint about Istanbul is the gender disparity. As in there is not a single woman depicted anywhere in the game that I have seen. However my mother played this over a dozen times without noticing this, and she normally does see this sort of stuff. When I asked her why, she said that it was probably because the game felt like it was an inclusive game because of the goals and the theme.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Istanbul also has two expansions...</span><br />
<h3>
<span style="color: #990000; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">Istanbul: Mocha & Baksheesh</span></h3>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Mocha & Baksheesh adds a new trade good (coffee) and four locations to the base game. This changes it form a 4x4 grid to a 5x4 grid, so it gives you more room to move around. This is both a blessing and a curse, as you won't get in each others way as much, but it takes much longer to get anywhere.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">You can trade your goods or your Lira for coffee, and then use that coffee to get extra bonuses, or trade for Rubies. With the expansion you need 6 rubies for victory instead of five so you need to work a little harder to gain that prestigious title of Best Merchant in Istanbul.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Also added are Guild Cards which are powerful turn replacements that can alter your strategy significantly.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Mocha & Baksheesh gives you another option for getting in the way of your opponents as well, potentially making important locations harder to reach using the barricade. There can only be one barricade at a time, and this comes with a cost, and there is nothing stopping them taking control of the barricade and doing the same to you.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Overall Mocha & Baksheesh became a standard when we played Istanbul, and the only time we played without it was when introducing new people to the game.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Until...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #990000; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><b>Istanbul: Letters & Seals</b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Letters & Seals adds several different elements to Istanbul. The thing the expansion is named after is the new Letters, which you can obtain from several locations and then deliver to obtain the seals which can be cashed in to obtain rubies or used to take extra turns.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Also added is a companion, which can be obtained and used as a second, but more limited merchant. The companion can't move as quickly, however doesn't need assistants to take actions so can be very powerful in a limited section of the board. Also having two locations of the board where you can take actions is very empowering. Because your opponents need to pay you if either your merchant or your companion is on a location, this opens up a lot more options to block in demand locations.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Letters & Seals also adds the Kiosk and the Auction House, both locations which allow players to potentially gain benefits on other players turns. These locations are a little slower than most of the others, but because all players are involved they don't feel that way.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I can't say if I like Letters & Seals more than Mocha & Baksheesh, they are very different expansions and change the game in different ways. They are both excellent.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><b>The Great Bazaar</b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">With Letters & Seals there is also the option of combining both expansions to play on 5x5 grid called The Great Bazaar. I haven't played this yet, because I can't see this working with less than 4 players, and I think it would work best with five. Also you would want all the players to be fairly familiar with both Mocha & Baksheesh and Letters & Seal before playing with this, so there is some learning investment before playing it.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I can see this being a very interesting game, with a lot of moving parts, but I think it will be a while before it hits the table because I really think it will be at it's best with five people who know Istanbul really well.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #990000; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">In Conclusion</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Istanbul is a great game, that plays quickly and rewards various play styles. There is no "solution" that will work for every game if you play with a randomised tile layout, and you will be faced with challenging decisions each time you play.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">However even with all these complex decisions of balancing trade goods, Lira, bonus cards, and special actions, Istanbul still never drags as things happen remarkably quickly for a game of this type.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">One other thing that's great about Istanbul is it works well at all player counts. It plays slightly differently for 2 players, but it works for 2-5 without there being a perfect player count and at no point do I want to not play it because we don't have the "correct" number of players.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Istanbul is a game that will continue to be visited by myself and my game group for years to come.</span>Bremic_aushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11485078508532251293noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7670759754652119460.post-31696493014413317242017-04-12T08:21:00.002+10:002017-04-12T08:21:50.468+10:00Pandemic: Reign of Cthulhu - First Four<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So I have been painting the characters from <b>Pandemic: Reign of Cthulhu</b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have finished the first four. This is not the best lighting for mini photos, I will take better photos when I have finished all seven.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Someone told me yesterday they had missed my mini painting updates, and partly that was because I haven't painted a lot; though there are some Imperial Assault things I haven't posted about yet because I feel the standard for my photo requirements has stepped up so much.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I hope these are nice.</span>Bremic_aushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11485078508532251293noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7670759754652119460.post-63208855058891610132017-02-10T14:10:00.002+11:002017-02-10T14:10:38.371+11:00My Imperial Assault Panoramas<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">With the help of my father last year I took some fantastic photos of my Imperial Assault minis. These panorama shots have been waiting for me to figure out the best way to post them.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I have created an imgur album. I am just going to share that.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I hope you enjoy these images.</span><br />

These are the Rebels who thwart the Imperial Schemes and overcome the threat posed by Darth Vader and the Evil Galactic Empireâ„¢.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">First off, Diala Passil and Jyn Odan.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7AHmBMRXnk03XQqzSbZhnNmSaJEjOFYmHYZv-o-hNQ8MOW0zpA_WDc4iBMX1dMlHULgAmF86nI9UfWDxuiRHSYbqdq0UtFCFqS-_3U3sLeFRQUe29RGfQU2LU99W9QUWYcSgYYGTJkgc/s1600/Diala+_+Jynn+01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="221" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7AHmBMRXnk03XQqzSbZhnNmSaJEjOFYmHYZv-o-hNQ8MOW0zpA_WDc4iBMX1dMlHULgAmF86nI9UfWDxuiRHSYbqdq0UtFCFqS-_3U3sLeFRQUe29RGfQU2LU99W9QUWYcSgYYGTJkgc/s320/Diala+_+Jynn+01.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixhGgYHHufbohNof1_bENZLzz7wCNHlULHCFXWnW-_0SNgGw2zYKVwcOaENPmwDjaRvFx0tarJ0cqrpxpJiKFq9NjSbXUZd1ED6F5DF3wpbyUa8lpQcoENT4MZ2TeqZwCO46eq_4BCW0I/s1600/Diala+_+Jynn+02.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="221" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixhGgYHHufbohNof1_bENZLzz7wCNHlULHCFXWnW-_0SNgGw2zYKVwcOaENPmwDjaRvFx0tarJ0cqrpxpJiKFq9NjSbXUZd1ED6F5DF3wpbyUa8lpQcoENT4MZ2TeqZwCO46eq_4BCW0I/s320/Diala+_+Jynn+02.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Diala's force talents and skill with her lightsaber, if she is lucky enough to get it in the campaign, make short work of the Imperial forces. Jyn's speed and accuracy however mean that she is always a threat to anyone stupid enough to engage her.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Next, Gaarkhan and Fenn Signis.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiB8ykTWhHFDeJBIEB0SEmp1wE2WKY676SaCPy4qv29r1iUmL0iPbRlqhLgfnzvysR5B5Pg2cVzsKJbHSoJStI6qqZrEriu8IIGRYszxs8n_d38XEmFbqyXhZBgR4m3hZJFP6JfkSLc74w/s1600/Gaarkhan+_+Fenn+01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="279" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiB8ykTWhHFDeJBIEB0SEmp1wE2WKY676SaCPy4qv29r1iUmL0iPbRlqhLgfnzvysR5B5Pg2cVzsKJbHSoJStI6qqZrEriu8IIGRYszxs8n_d38XEmFbqyXhZBgR4m3hZJFP6JfkSLc74w/s320/Gaarkhan+_+Fenn+01.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLOcC3QL2e_UsNniEMp6jNJKWt_Sc1f6yHM-ejRahAvpnqc7A4sHYkqsaK9oOTWW61GqBhn067bV-did1AZX1K_BvraJ7VROB6Xor3MjisjFB-HEsjqu_e8Txb-jcKRgb-XxlUaNUct3E/s1600/Gaarkhan+_+Fenn+02.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="275" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLOcC3QL2e_UsNniEMp6jNJKWt_Sc1f6yHM-ejRahAvpnqc7A4sHYkqsaK9oOTWW61GqBhn067bV-did1AZX1K_BvraJ7VROB6Xor3MjisjFB-HEsjqu_e8Txb-jcKRgb-XxlUaNUct3E/s320/Gaarkhan+_+Fenn+02.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">No one wants to face an unstoppable wookie with a power weapon. Meanwhile Fenn is able to take out the enemy from range and clear a path for his wookie friend.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Finally we have Mak Eshka'rey and Gideon Argus.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXiZn6Nlkoe8xattpa189kqA-Uj0bL4WcJeD5EGi1sjCf9z9qTg3LrcpbzVzRpCA8qjGGMByXCxS-Q5KV19mQEW5Y9xAtTuUJECai8y3FiRcn5mS2D0OXeSJVZvibczfEpUcA1_nH5z00/s1600/Mak+_+Gideon+01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXiZn6Nlkoe8xattpa189kqA-Uj0bL4WcJeD5EGi1sjCf9z9qTg3LrcpbzVzRpCA8qjGGMByXCxS-Q5KV19mQEW5Y9xAtTuUJECai8y3FiRcn5mS2D0OXeSJVZvibczfEpUcA1_nH5z00/s320/Mak+_+Gideon+01.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEIbKZG6EIWOqIkikfwF1Kh4OP44aTVcz4JGmlNjnye1hgy3QcpEkoUUeG4HnWrwdsjwZYPZa6HWiOk0IhsTfRBEJueDL4RRmVzzmJXuYI0adWK3BaDh0cbNDpTfm2_p2qJxVxYyxIrZE/s1600/Mak+_+Gideon+02.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="204" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEIbKZG6EIWOqIkikfwF1Kh4OP44aTVcz4JGmlNjnye1hgy3QcpEkoUUeG4HnWrwdsjwZYPZa6HWiOk0IhsTfRBEJueDL4RRmVzzmJXuYI0adWK3BaDh0cbNDpTfm2_p2qJxVxYyxIrZE/s320/Mak+_+Gideon+02.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Mak's ability to befuddle the enemy constantly confuses and confounds their attempts to stop the rebels. Meanwhile Gideon leadership skills are unmatched and he can rally the forces to astounding victories.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">All of these are minis that were wonderful to paint.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Again, I couldn't have done any of this without following <a href="https://www.youtube.com/user/Sorastro" target="_blank">Sorastro's Painting Tutorials</a>, and I thank him for all of his work and allowing me to learn how to pain.</span>Bremic_aushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11485078508532251293noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7670759754652119460.post-67357490908407443032016-09-22T09:27:00.004+10:002016-09-22T09:27:58.359+10:00Han, Chewie, IG-88, and of course Boba Fett<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">It's time to see our favourite smugglers, and the bounty hunters who chase them.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Han and Chewbacca are the two most iconic characters from Star Wars for me, and I am glad they came out so well.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">But of course, the most popular character in Star Wars, even if not the most well known by non fans, is Boba Fett. This is by far the most complicated miniature I have ever painted, and he took me nearly 20 hours to complete.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">From the detailed colour scheme, to the symbol on the shoulder, everything turned out amazing.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Well he was, until now. Now I have photos of him painted and ready to go.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">FFG have announced a new Luke Skywalker figure for Imperial Assault coming in the future, him as a Jedi Knight from Return of the Jedi, but for now here he is in all his Tatooine goodness.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">He is a fairly simple miniature, but the colour blending on the pants and shirt make this really interesting in ways that aren't fully obvious from the photos; which were again taken using nothing but natural light.</span></div>

I will try to post some every few days over the next few weeks.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Taken with a real camera and some real equipment; and all taken with just natural light. They might have been better with more professional lighting, but I think they look great.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Here is the first lot, my completely painted DungeonQuest minis.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Two of these have been posted here before, and they were quick and fast jobs; however the others were minis I took a little more time and attention on. However definitely not as much as the Imperial Assault stuff, and no where near as much as Boba Fett, I will save him up for later.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Anyway, because pictures are better than words, here they are.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

(Bones 77040)<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Okay, it's a bit pathetic to say your own work looks amazing, but I am really surprised how well he turned out. As I was watching him progress I kept saying to myself "Did I really do that?"</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">So what the hell, time to pat myself on the back.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Take a look at this bad guy.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgo7s8O2P_gs3koJDzhDttX3ZuYeU-vlM5V-31cherx2l7uFnMakm-BgH0qm78TyFEbOHBw7xDXfcDEXE29cR06gDhlhGK5zzUUUxTz_d0g9ma2mWZCAQeC19AzVbl0kvfQ1MSa2FAfYNI/s1600/Warlock+01.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgo7s8O2P_gs3koJDzhDttX3ZuYeU-vlM5V-31cherx2l7uFnMakm-BgH0qm78TyFEbOHBw7xDXfcDEXE29cR06gDhlhGK5zzUUUxTz_d0g9ma2mWZCAQeC19AzVbl0kvfQ1MSa2FAfYNI/s320/Warlock+01.JPG" width="177" /></span></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">And this is with some quick and dirty photos under bad light.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Reaper Bones mini 77040, aka Satheras the Warlock.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiC4ArHGW87Tp4dkJY5EgpO9s4Yopn4WHWTRLAjUS16W3knSWOt_25cfooYkOi_bT-5dtBUkqPYKx23AlTDLFc6ZJ3zwtMGAiDPGVhbe5atzwbemHXUVlKeZ-jLveBjBVGfYOYExmAPPQk/s1600/Warlock+02.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiC4ArHGW87Tp4dkJY5EgpO9s4Yopn4WHWTRLAjUS16W3knSWOt_25cfooYkOi_bT-5dtBUkqPYKx23AlTDLFc6ZJ3zwtMGAiDPGVhbe5atzwbemHXUVlKeZ-jLveBjBVGfYOYExmAPPQk/s320/Warlock+02.JPG" width="178" /></a> </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Believe it or not, the shirt and the belt are the same base colour, with the difference being the wash and the highlight. With just the washes the colour difference was astounding. I used this guy to learn a lot about different blending and colour techniques.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Quite a bit of the brown highlight has a touch of green added to give it a more natural look, and I think it worked well. I kept the face simple, because without the direct lighting the eyes are pretty much in shadow from the hood.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">The gem was done with many layers of green glaze directly onto the bones white, and a finishing touch of a darker highlight to give the edges some definition.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwaldbj6CKmn72eZPCkd1qQNzd_yAKi2DIRRLUY0mO4k2033-H6gKO8Q8E5h6IaavLB_SmEIEinwl5P_yHJoRQB-QnlX9qOZGkTLxuMyCSAbpSbG7amCXotfDb_N6O9g5A9ESN2sAjwZs/s1600/Warlock+04.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwaldbj6CKmn72eZPCkd1qQNzd_yAKi2DIRRLUY0mO4k2033-H6gKO8Q8E5h6IaavLB_SmEIEinwl5P_yHJoRQB-QnlX9qOZGkTLxuMyCSAbpSbG7amCXotfDb_N6O9g5A9ESN2sAjwZs/s320/Warlock+04.JPG" width="175" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">The scroll was a couple of different highlights on a dark colour to get a parchment colour, then some scribbles with a deep green to give it an evil colour. I considered red, but I wanted the only red to be the single dot on the staff under the gem.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJjE5Vx1aunPBNFT64kuUuMvNQygLthujMSZrdQ8bxXhdvd0aLnO7MZWyAExtnltdoTmZ52yTxf32L_yC4ImGtioBjc7EiCu1YFSi4DEgkz7bcrACetSDXhyphenhyphenrLyhkAHpatzykG7eqSEwM/s1600/Warlock+05.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJjE5Vx1aunPBNFT64kuUuMvNQygLthujMSZrdQ8bxXhdvd0aLnO7MZWyAExtnltdoTmZ52yTxf32L_yC4ImGtioBjc7EiCu1YFSi4DEgkz7bcrACetSDXhyphenhyphenrLyhkAHpatzykG7eqSEwM/s320/Warlock+05.JPG" width="175" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I would be proud to put this guy on any table, and for one of my early non-guide driven paint jobs I think it shows that I am now a good mini painter and can do anything I want.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Overall effort, about 6-7 hours.</span></div>
<br />Bremic_aushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11485078508532251293noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7670759754652119460.post-53381193638789542102015-10-19T08:05:00.002+11:002015-10-19T08:05:47.565+11:00Warlock in Progress - Bones<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">It's been ages since I have posted, and I just wanted to share this.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I got handed a whole box of Bones minis, which has overwhelmed me a little, but is so amazing. I started painting a Warlock and realized I wanted to paint all the clothes before I based the staff, skin and scroll because I knew that while painting the clothes I would get paint on those and I didn't want to have to fix what I had done.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">This is an in progress shot because I am really happy with how the highlighting has gone. It's a quick photo taken under poor conditions, but this has been only about 3 hours so far, and I have tried several different colour blends doing it. Having a lot of fun.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0iMuwZbKGKUB3zvKzNrn15TDFvoGJ40ZTPi6Y3XRuCVieKDP8OkLNDNDNcHNYCDQ_8JTdyRVUJpEvPB3E1Z3xhdLjvnMrM9Ch_BIpahiylGTDMlQh1hurI6H-EKY7DQAorlpxGXX8_KU/s1600/Warlock+In+Progress.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0iMuwZbKGKUB3zvKzNrn15TDFvoGJ40ZTPi6Y3XRuCVieKDP8OkLNDNDNcHNYCDQ_8JTdyRVUJpEvPB3E1Z3xhdLjvnMrM9Ch_BIpahiylGTDMlQh1hurI6H-EKY7DQAorlpxGXX8_KU/s320/Warlock+In+Progress.JPG" width="177" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">You really can't see it, but I tried a nice green blend for the strap on the boot and the knee pad. It looks amazing when I look at it through the magnifier, but at 1x magnification it just looks like a mild highlight. However it's kind of cool that the detail is there.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">This guy still has a fair way to go.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I just realized I have completed three new Imperial Assault minis I haven't posted here yet. Two wookies and IG-88. I will try to post those soon.</span>Bremic_aushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11485078508532251293noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7670759754652119460.post-47060922733869859022015-09-15T21:49:00.000+10:002015-09-15T21:58:52.828+10:00Jyn Odan - The Rebels Prepare<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">This is another case of the miniature looking much better under normal light than under lighting for my crappy camera setup.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Jyn Odan came together really well, and a lot faster than I thought she would. Again, the combination of the wet palette and the magnifier really speeding up my painting.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Also, I am getting better. I think the photos at page render size are much more representative of the mini in reality, the larger photos are what they look like under about 5x magnification, and that isn't the quality my painting is aiming for.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I am still working on improving my highlighting skills, but I like where I am getting, I think the jacket came out great. The final thing I did was add a watered down gloss varnish to the jacket to give the leather a sheen, but while it looks great, I think I could have watered it down a little more and make it a little less shiny. Oh well.</span></div>

It does 2x and 4x magnification and I wanted to see what I could do with it.<br />
I also wanted to start painting some Reaper Bones mini's I had in detail. There is one I started about 6 weeks ago that didn't go well, but this is a new one I started only Friday night, and with both my new practice and the magnifier, I think it came out really well.<br />
<br />
So, without further delay... The Cave Troll!<br />

To say I am happy with him would be an understatement. I think he is my best work yet, and I didn't follow any guide. This was pure me.<br />
<br />
There is some highlighting that isn't done the way it's generally accepted it should be done. But whatever, I think he looks great.Bremic_aushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11485078508532251293noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7670759754652119460.post-4224470253344989862015-08-30T16:44:00.001+10:002015-08-31T07:39:54.195+10:00My first commission - Casiatta - a Reaper Bones Miniature<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">So one of my best friends who plays a lot of D&D had just bought a heap of mini's for characters for up coming campaigns. He plays in a 2 player campaign for about 12-18 months with a hero character, from Level 1 to Level 30, and then they reset and play another. Generally there are two campaigns running, where each of them is the DM and the other is the hero. He loves these campaigns.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">So he just discovered Reaper Bones, and had bought a few minis that he thought might be the next hero he would play. He asked me if I would paint one or two of them.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">His requests for this one was:</span><br />
<br />
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Red hair.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">A paladin or calavier type character.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Don't spend too long on it.</span></li>
</ul>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">So I thought I would try my hand at doing a really fast paint. Turned out that was about 90 minutes. It was actually about 5 hours, but I only spent 90 minutes of that at the painting table or doing anything relating to the mini.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I didn't spend long trying to decide on colours, and I pretty much did base, wash, and then some selective highlights.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I also took this as an opportunity to play with colours. Such has what happens if you use a blue wash on iron, or green on leather and brass to give a slightly different look. At the end the sword looked really dull, so I gave it a very light yellow glaze and then re-highlighted the edge - to try to make it look like it was glowing with holy light.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">All in all, I am pretty happy, considering I spent so little time on it.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Enjoy.</span><br />

Unfortunately, I didn't get as many painting hours as I wanted, but I really think they have been worth it.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">The Nexu are about 12 feet long and when they come towards you, salivating, I challenge any foe, Rebel or Imperial, to stay calm. The minis are around 6cm long.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">This is by far the most detailed work I have done with a paint brush, and while my photographing is getting better, it still doesn't come close to doing these figures justice. On the table they look amazing.</span><br />

The cracked ground effect was something I decided to do myself, it was not part of the original guide, but after seeing the Nexu again in Attach of the Clones, I thought the effect would work. Being able to use the different ground colours for the elite and regular deployment group I think really works well.<br />

When you compare these to the <a href="http://vorpal-thoughts.elindal.net/2015/08/jyn-odan-and-nexu-pre-painting.html" target="_blank">unpainted figures</a> I posted earlier, and you see just how amazing the Sorastro guides for the Imperial Assault miniatures are. Once again, I followed them to the best of my skill, and in doing so painted to a quality well beyond what I am capable of coming up with on my own.Bremic_aushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11485078508532251293noreply@blogger.com2
